These drawings are from my personal collection of Union Pacific Painting, Lettering & Numbering (PL&N) drawings.
Often the revision history can give clues as to when certain items were changed.
The drawings were not always followed exactly, so refer to photos for what was actually done. These images are 50% actual size.

    This is the drawing issued when UP changed from Common Standard Roman lettering on steam locos to the new Gothic style lettering on March 1, 1937.
As the revision notes state, the Gothic style lettering was changed on May 10, 1939 to have circle "O"s and "C"s and circular numbers, as opposed to the oval "O"s and "C"s and 'skinny' numbers of the 1937 style.
Note that the proper letter and number shapes are shown on the listed detail drawings, and NOT on this drawing.

An additional change was made on June 11, 1956, when the 13-1/2" letters "O" and "C" were given a new oval shape, as drawing 996-CA-24999 was revised.
    This is the drawing for UP's Two-Tone Gray (TTG) scheme as applied to steam locos. Note that the tender lettering is spaced farther apart than on Black steam locos.
A few 4-8-4s were lettered in this scheme in Spring 1946 with Gray lettering & striping to match Pullman colors.  But by Fall 1946, the striping & lettering color had been changed to Armour Yellow to better match the Streamliner trains, as it was when this drawing was initially issued in December 1946.
As the revision notes state, the lettering and striping was changed back to Gray on June 2, 1949.  By that time, steam locos were seldom used on the Streamliners.

The TTG scheme was applied to some 4-6-2s, all 4-8-2s, all 4-8-4s and ten 4-6-6-4s.

    This drawing was first issued May 20, 1904, and this revision was issued on November 7, 1913.
Unfortunately, in this era there were no revision notes, so it is not known what was changed with each of the twenty revisions.
This drawing was superseded by drawing 993-CA-20035, which has yet to be found.
